Who am I?

Recently, at age 33, I started working on self-discovery. Not to learn my identity or figuring out where I belong... Diving deeper into myself to figure out why I had the identity I had, and why I belonged where I was. This type of self-work is not for the weak. As you dive into yourself, you naturally start to change.

In Denise Taylor’s: The Quest for Self-Knowledge in Later Life: Why Some of Us Seek Deeper Understanding

She shares interesting information of people’s reasoning in diving deeper into self-knowledge.

“The Building Blocks of Self-Understanding

Research has identified several characteristics common among those who actively seek self-knowledge. These individuals tend to:

  • Value continuous learning and personal growth

  • Maintain strong interpersonal relationships

  • Remain open to new experiences

  • Actively engage in self-improvement"

I didn’t even start researching about self-awareness, until I was already invested in my own personal growth. Then I wanted to understand my reasons for wanting to be more self-aware, rather than being “worldly-aware”. I can see how this research ties into my own reasons of embarking on this sometimes dark but rewarding journey.

Let me tell you, I wish I started sooner. Unfortunately, my journey started after losing everything I had. After a re-poed car, a lot of lost jobs, a few evictions, after a breakup with someone I created a family with, after going from a full-time mommy to a weekend mommy, after hurting others by making bad decisions, after becoming homeless and living in a shelter.
